A private Apple Health step tracker
Pupstep turns steps into a dog companion without turning your activity into an advertising profile or a cloud account.
Pupstep reads steps and walking/running distance only after you grant Apple Health permission. Activity is processed on your iPhone and saved locally for the app and widgets. Pupstep has no account, ads, cross-app tracking, or Health-data server upload.
What Pupstep reads
Pupstep requests read access to two activity types: step count and walking/running distance. Those values power the progress ring, dog state, active-day bond progress, walk memories, and widgets.
If Apple Health is delayed or temporarily unavailable, Pupstep can use same-day iPhone Motion activity as a read-only fallback after the explained permission step. Apple Health remains the primary source.
What stays on your iPhone
- Your chosen dog and companion name
- Today’s step or distance snapshot
- Completed active days, bond level, and walk memories
- Widget state and app settings
- Locally checked App Store purchase entitlements
Pupstep does not operate a user database for these records. Deleting the app can remove local progress, subject to normal iPhone backup and Apple purchase-restoration behavior.
What Pupstep does not do
- No sign-in, profile, social graph, or leaderboard
- No advertising identifier or third-party tracking SDK
- No sale or sharing of Apple Health or Motion activity
- No subscription required to keep using the core experience
- No medical, diagnosis, treatment, or coaching claims
Sharing is separate and controlled
Milestone cards are created only after you tap Share. Activity progress is excluded by default and appears only if you explicitly include it. The standard iOS share sheet lets you choose where the finished image goes; Pupstep does not upload it first.
Purchases do not buy better tracking
The Corgi and all core activity features are free. Optional one-time purchases unlock other dogs or cosmetic accessories. They do not change Apple Health behavior, goals, calculations, or privacy.
Use Apple Health on your iPhone, keep progress local, and check in from the app or widget.
